Migration Character Assessment – VACCU

Migration Character Assessment – VACCU

What is the Migration Character Requirement?

Under section 501 of the Migration Act 1958, the Department of Home Affairs must be satisfied that a visa applicant passes the character test. If the Department has concerns, it may refuse or cancel a visa on character grounds.

Failing the character test is serious and can have long-lasting impacts on your ability to remain in, or return to, Australia.

What is VACCU?

The Visa Applicant Character Consideration Unit (VACCU) is a specialist division within the Department of Home Affairs. VACCU is responsible for assessing complex cases where character concerns have been identified.

If your case is referred to VACCU, it means the Department is considering refusing or cancelling your visa on character grounds. This is a critical stage in the process.

Why Legal Representation Matters

Responding to VACCU requires a thorough and strategic approach. At Futai Migration, we assist clients by:

  • Analysing the character issues raised in your case.
  • Preparing strong, evidence-based submissions tailored to your circumstances.
  • Gathering supporting documents (such as references, rehabilitation evidence, or community support letters).
  • Ensuring your response is lodged within the strict deadlines.
